VIDEO--Mayors Speak to America's Needs
International giving is growing by leaps and bounds, and with good reason. But for this episode of PhilanthroMedia's own Dialogue for Donors, you will hear mayors speak to the pressing needs of America's own urban areas as well as the immense leverage to be gained from investment in them.
I conducted the interviews as part of the MayorTV project funded by the Drum Major Institute for Public Policy and The Nation which you should check out if you want to hear more from these compelling leaders. You can also read New York Times coverage of that project, which focused on what the presidential candidates should be talking about relative to cities, here.
For great information on how donors are investing to take advantage of what cities offer, check out: Living Cities. Obviously, philanthropic dollars can't solve the wide ranging issues these mayors describe -- from education to violence to disaster preparedness. But philanthropy does possess highly flexible forms of capital that can be used to advance solutions each day emerging from America's cities.
