A Little Green in Your Capital Campaign, Please?
If you are going to give to a capital campaign -- especially if you are going to have your name on a plaque -- consider supporting only "green" building practices. While it is bound to give most campaign planner extreme agita, that is exactly what the Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice is doing. Included in their grant guidelines is the following statement:
To encourage green building practices the Foundation will only award
grants for new construction capital projects that, upon completion, are
certified as green according to the most current Green Commercial Building Designation Standard of the Florida Green Building Coalition, Inc. (FGBC).After
a grant is awarded and the project has obtained FGBC green
certification, the Foundation will additionally reimburse the grantee
for the total FGBC project application fee, and up to $25,000 for
planning and design activities directly attributed to building the
capital project to FGBC green standards.
That extra $25,000 bump probably isn't enough to make folks change non-green plans but it can't hurt. The movement toward green development is gaining momentum because consumers like you are demanding it. Why not make your philanthropy green?
