What the Other Microsoft Philanthropists are Doing
According to a Lehrer News Hour segment, a number of "next gen" donors are emerging from the estimated 3,000-5,000 millionaires spawned by appreciation of the Microsoft stock. For some, like former employee Trish Millines, the pull to philanthropy was so strong that she couldn't imagine staying at the company simply to earn more.
Among others, the segment takes note of the fact that Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen's five foundations have given away $150 million to forest preservation, hospitals, universities and the arts including $60 million to the City of Seattle for a rock and roll museum.
The segment, which I found by searching You Tube under the key word "philanthropy", is worth checking out for the variety of approaches spawned from the bounty of one corporation.
